Campaign for Justice for Hicks and HabibThursday 7th August was David Hicks' birthday. People in Sydney, Adelaide and in country areas threw a birthday party to say that these men are fellow Australians and like us, have the same right to justice and basic human rights.
Sign an online petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/7august/petition.htmlEmail a politician on 7th August: Actions for Justice for Hicks and HabibDavid Hicks and fellow Australian Mamdouh Habib, have been held by US military in Camp X -ray in Guantanamo Bay Cuba without charge. In David's case, it has now been 20 months. While court cases of suspected Bali bombers have gone on in the full public view of Australians, two of our own have been locked away in secrecy in US in breach of all the norms of international law. We have seen from John Howard's refugee policy that by locking up people, subjecting them to sub human standards and openly vilifying them, he has been successful in swaying public opinion. As fellow Australians, we demand that they are afforded due process and are returned to Australia immediately to be charged and tried under the eyes of Australian public with their lawyer and families. If they cannot be charged here, they should be released.
