Mr Onofre Andres Jr, speech, Palm Sunday 2008First, let me salute the participants in the Sydney Peace & Justice Coalition for their call to remove the foreign military troops, particularly, the US troops in Iraq, in Afghanistan, and in south-east Asia, and the US bases all over the world.
These military forces are there for the so-called 'global war on terrorism'. The war of terror of US President Bush was invented only to mislead the people of the world that the economic disadvantages and the coming economic recession in the United States are caused by global terrorism. In the Philippines, the government and the generals claimed that there were only twelve remnants of the Abu Sayaff terrorist group. They swore they would kill the terrorists there. But I assure you that there are 12,000 troops there fighting these terrorists. How can you believe that this is real? Among those twelve thousand there are two thousand US troops fighting this so-called terrorism. These US troops have sophisticated weapons but still cannot finish the terrorists there. The truth is that these thousands of troops are to drive poor people out of their villages, ransack their belongings and destroy their ancestral lands through mining operations. The continuing existence of US forces and their military facilities in the Philippines is the projection of US military power in south-east Asia. They have no real intention to finish the terrorists there, because these terrorists are only an excuse for them to intensify their military and political presence there I the Philippines. These US forces are used to promote investments of US multinational corporations and their puppets through exploitation of natural resources. We now face a big challenge. The superpower of the world is the United States and the only way to defeat it is through the political power of the world, through international struggle and through solidarity all over the world. On behalf of Migrante Australia, let us all shout - Down with US Imperialism! Thankyou. |
