Release Douglas Wood in Iraq and withdraw Australian troops from Iraq

06 May 2005

The Sydney Peace & Justice Coalition joins in the call to save Douglas Wood’s life, just as we have called for the end of this destructive war in Iraq and the return of Australian troops.

We urge all Australians to join in this call actively, so that it is clearly communicated to the hostage-takers, and to the Australian and US governments.

In particular, we call on Australians to join our call for the withdrawal of Australian troops from Iraq, because this is the best way to respond to our government's decision to invade Iraq and to take part in its military occupation, and it is the best way to help free Douglas Wood.

We deplore the loss of life of the 100,000 Iraqi people and the thousands maimed and injured in this conflict, which was based on a lie.

We believe that all people whoever they are should be treated in an equally human and humane way and follow the United Nations Charter, which has not happened in Iraq.
President Bush says his ultimate goal is ending tyranny in the world. In fact, he has become the bearer of 'divinely beneficial intangibles' as the 'collateral damage' and anarchy increase in Iraq.
