Send a message to Cindy Sheehan, send a message to George Bush

18 August 2005

Cindy Sheehan captures public imagination in the US

Why did my son die in Iraq?"

Donna Mulhearn writes: Americans like Cindy Sheehan. She's currently camped in a ditch outside President Bush's Texas ranch demanding answers as to why her son was killed in Iraq.

Sheehan's actions, she said, were sparked by President Bush's comments like those he made last just week: "Our men and women who've lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan and in this war on terror have died in a noble cause and a selfless cause."

More than a year after her son's death and after countless official reports have declared Bush's excuses for invasion a load of Texan bull-dust, Cindy understandably, begs to differ with him.

"We all know by now that that's not true, and I want to ask George Bush, 'Why did my son die? What was the noble cause that he died for?'

"I don't want President Bush to use my son's name or my family name to justify any more killing or to exploit my son's name, my son's sacrifice, or my son's honor to justify more killing. As a mother, why would I want one more mother to go through what I'm going through, Iraqi or American?

"And I want to tell him that the only way to honor my son's sacrifice is to bring the troops home now."

Her son, Casey Sheehan, from California, died in Baghdad's Sadr City on April 4, 2004, when his unit was attacked with rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire. He was 24.

Cindy has decided to stay put in Crawford, while Bush remains on vacation at the ranch, until she gets her answers.

"If he doesn't come out to talk to me in Crawford, I'll follow him to D.C., and I'll camp out on his lawn," said Cindy.

A large crowd of supporters from all over the US has begun to converge on Crawford Texas to support Cindy Sheehan. Vigils to support Cindy have been held in over 1,000 cities and towns across the USA. Donna Mulhearn, an Australian human shield and anti-war activist, is now at Cindy's camp at Crawford, Texas, and was reported on ABC TV on August 18.

To support Cindy, you can send her an e-mail at scindy121@aol.com which the Crawford Peace House will pass on to her.

To help Cindy Sheehan keep the pressure on Bush:

  1. Email the White House at comments@whitehouse.gov Send a simple three-word message, "Talk to Cindy!"
  2. Call the White House comment line (202) 456-1111, and/or send a postcard to George Bush, The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20500 with the same three words.
  3. Spread the word! Send this appeal to your friends, to email lists, to blogs. Post it on websites. Let's swamp the White House with our simple three word demand: TALK TO CINDY!

Sydney Peace & Justice Coalition Message to Cindy

Dear Cindy,

We've got your message way over here in Australia. We can't believe the President has refused to talk to you at Crawford.

Our hearts go out to you and your family and all those who have lost loved ones in the Iraq war.

We have called on our support base to ask President Bush to talk to you about the death of your son Casey.

We are so happy that your courageous stand has been embraced by so many people in the United States.

In solidarity

Peter Murphy
